Always Wear safety glasses.
When ever operating any kind of power tools or when using any tools that could cause objects to fly around. I remember a time years back when working in a shipping and receiving place. I opened a cardboard box that had 2" copper staples' holding it shut and when I pulled it open. I saw stars one of the staples hit me in the eye ball yes I had to go to the hospital and missed a few days work.

Always check and Make sure:
All ladders, scaffolding are placed securely and on a firm, stable surface.  and are in good condition.

If you are not  sure.
That you can handle the job but would like to try. At least find someone who is such as a licensed or at leased an experienced person who knows what it is you want to do.

Picture 1.Here you will learn.
how to remove a couple of old roof vent flanges. And patch the round holes in the roof that are under the vents. Remove A few more shingles and the patched area is ready to  re-shingled. This roof had two vents that were unused. A previous owner had used them as dryer vents, and they leaked during heavy rains.

Step-1 picture-2
You need to remove as much of  the roofing tar from the deck screws that hold the vents to the roof. Then if you have a cordless drill or any drill  remove the deck screws not everyone has a drill it will take longer but you can use a screwdriver.

Step-2 Picture-3
You can take  a flat pry bar to scrape away the roofing tar that once sealed the vent to the roof. Once you have  done this it will be easy when you are ready to remove it.

Step-3 Picture-4
Now you are ready to lift and  peel up the surrounding shingles to expose all edges of the vent. You do want to be carful the more roof shingles you rip the more you fix.

Step-4 Pictures-5 and-6
Now that there is nothing in your way take your flat pry bar and little by little start prying up the flange make sure to go all the way around it and the flange is loosened from the roof

Note
The photos above are a great example of how not to install a roof flange. The top of the flange is barely covered by shingles. Witch is clear to me why they were leaking.
It would have been much better to removed a few shingles and cover the flange properly. The importance of taking your time.

Step-5 Picture-7
As you can see by following the proper steps makes it very easy to pull the vent out.

Picture-8
After a
closer inspection, It turns out that this device is actually a chimney "B-vent", for a furnace or gas water heater. It was never intended to be used for venting a clothes dryer.

Picture-9
This is what the roof should look like after both vents were removed. That was fun are you ready to repair the roof holes and put things together.

Picture-10
I wanted to see what was down that hole. Nothing but some unused pieces of vent pipe insulation. This is one of the handiest features of a digital camera: being able to stick the camera in a hole and shoot a picture with the flash on, and then immediately view the image.

Removing The Shingles:

Picture-11
The shingle I'm pointing at is the highest level that needs to be removed...but first I have to remove the nails holding the shingle above.

Picture-12
When shingles are installed properly, the nails in one row will pierce the very top of the shingle below. That way, almost every shingle has eight nails holding it down
